This is how much Palantir will pay you in London

Remember Palantir? It's the highly secretive data science company that counts places like the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Credit Suisse and J.P. Morgan among its clients. You could say it specializes in deciphering data to unearth what people are up to (J.P Morgan used Palantir to peer at its employees). However, it also has a reputation for excellent staff perks - the WSJ wrote last year that Palantir employees were used to being served artisanal bacon - until it became apparent that the company needed to make more money and standard bacon was served instead.

Despite historic doubts about Palantir's profitability globally, the company seems to be doing ok-ish in the UK. Palantir UK Ltd. just released its accounts for the year ending December 2018 and they reveal a net profit of £1.9m ($2.3m) on revenues of £11.1m , compared to a loss of £635km on revenues of £9m the year before.

Palantir UK Ltd is one of two UK Palantir operations, the other being the larger Palantir Technologies UK. While Palantir UK provides, 'software, consultancy, sales and marketing and R&D support' to UK clients, Palantir Technologies UK provides 'marketing and sales support' to Palantir Technologies in the U.S., which builds Palantir's software and data platforms. In other words, there's an overlap - but Palantir UK appears to house more of the company's UK technical jobs.

Palantir UK's accounts 2018 accounts show it employing 63 people, of whom 17 were consultants and 46 were admin staff. Consultants at Palantir work with client companies to apply Palantir's software and data products to client needs. It's clearly not easy to to get a job as one - consultancy headcount fell by one person in 2018. Credit Suisse CEO Tidjane Thiam said last year that Palantir only accepts one in every 100,000 applicants.

What are salaries like at Palantir?

Average wages and salaries at Palantir UK weren't great in 2018, at 'just' £69k per head. These were considerably less than the average £220k per head paid at Palantir Technologies UK in 2017.

Of course, Palantir isn't just about the pay. It's also about the kudos (the CEO says it's a, "a colony of artists") and the perks. There's also the potential to make money if and when Palantir does go public.
