I got a great job at a Hong Kong crypto fund. Here’s why I turned it down

The man who tried - and ultimately failed - to bring Bitcoin to Barclays has just got a new job at Fidelity Investments.

Chris Tyrer left Barclays last September. He just got a job at Fidelity Investments as head of digital assets, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Tyrer, who began his career as a commodities trader, and was head of commodities trading at Barclays until December 2017, was tasked with gauging clients' interest in a crytpo currency trading desk at the bank. His departure after eight months as head of Barclays' 'digital assets project' indicated that clients weren't that interested after all.

It's not entirely clear what Tyrer will be doing at Fidelity, but the asset manager said in February 2019 that it will be launching a 'pro-Bitcoin crypto platform'  known as Fidelity Digital Assets Services (FDAS). This is being run by Tom Jessop, a former Goldman Sachs managing director who joined Fidelity in 2018 after briefly working for a blockchain firm.
