4 financial services firms which you not be aware of, but which offer graduate training

It’s not all about big banks. There are plenty of other fish in the graduate hiring sea – they may not be as big, as prestigious, or hire as many people, but because they’re not very well known, they may also offer a better ratio of applications to graduate places. After all, the large investment banks receive 82 applications per job. 

Here are 8 firms which hire graduates in Europe, but may be below your recruitment radar. For our fuller list of graduate and intern hiring deadlines, click here. 

1. Gazprom Marketing and Trading

What? The trading arm of US energy company Gazprom.

Where to look? Gazprom’s careers website is accessible here. 

Who does it hire? Gazprom doesn’t actually hire graduates as traders. Instead, you’ll have to choose from: commercial and front office analytics, professional analytics, technology, and project management.

Requirements: You’ll need a 2.1 and 320 UCAS points.

When to apply: No deadlines are given, but Gazprom has been advertising for graduates since October 5th.

2. Markit 

What? A financial services information company. Market grew out of a business providing information on valuing credit default swaps and now employs over 2,500 people.

Where to look? Markit’s careers website is accessible here. 

Who does it hire? Markit is running a summer internship programme between June and September 2013.

Requirements: Not given.

When to apply: No deadline is given, but if you haven’t heard anything by 26th March 2013, you won’t have been successful.

3. Mitsubishi UFJ Securities International

What? Large Japanese Bank with London office.

Where to look? You’ll find Mitsubishi’s graduate careers website here. 

Who does it hire? MUSI says it has opportunities in everything from: global markets (sales, trading, research) to investment banking (debt, capital markets, structured products and derivatives) and corporate infrastructure (risk, product control, quant solutions, operations).

Requirements: Minimum of a 2.1. A visa to work in the UK. Candidates have to submit a 250 word ‘blog’ on their current market activity.

When to apply: The deadline for graduate positions is Monday November 5th. Technology applications will be closed early next year.

4. Macquarie Capital

What? Large Australian bank with London office.

Where to look: You’ll find information on Macquarie’s graduate jobs here. 

Who does it hire? Macquarie hires graduates and interns into fixed income, infrastructure roles, risk management and corporate finance and capital markets.

Requirements: Daniel Wong, head of Macquarie’s infrastructure business in EMEA says graduates going into infrastructure are generally expected to be studying a numerate degree.

When to apply: The deadline for graduate applications is November 5th. The deadline for internship applications is January 7th 2013.
