While you don’t have as much compensation upside in a middle-office or back-office banking role compared to a front-office Wall Street position, salaries for certain support roles at U.S. banks are trending up.
Robert Walters’ most recent salary survey found that base pay for most New York positions is flat right now (not including bonuses), with a few being down. However, six of the seven jobs that have seen an increase in their base salaries over the past year are middle-office or back-office positions that could be considered support staff.
The jobs with the rising pay include: Prince 2/Six Sigma operations project manager, in-house attorneys across three different levels of experience, and director of software engineering and chief technology officer.
The latter topped out at a base salary of $325k (up from $200k-$300k in 2016), while an in-house attorney with 10-plus years of experience brought in as much as $350k (up from $250k-$300k in 2016), not including a bonus.
