There’s a little more than a month to go in the first quarter of 2018, and many banks are hiring on Wall Street to double-down on areas that were strengths in 2017 and to bolster struggling businesses. While data scientists, AI/machine-learning specialists, developers and other technologists are certainly in demand, there is plenty of recruitment going on beyond middle- and back-office roles, including open front-office investment banking positions.
Here’s a rundown of the open roles that bulge-bracket U.S. banks are currently looking to fill in New York.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch is hiring for a wide spectrum of jobs in the Big Apple, including junior consumer and biotech equity research analysts, an international equities investment manager research analyst, credit research analysts and associates, a vice president-level investment research analyst and editor of due-diligence commentary and communications, as well as the head of U.S. rates research and strategy.
It is also hiring FICC trading/CPM/global loan portfolio management (GLPM) analysts, structured products/collateralized loan obligation (CLO) structuring analysts on the global credit and special situations (GCSS) team, Treasury sales/solutions analysts on the public-sector banking team, and a global Treasury sales officer (TSO).
BAML is also recruiting AMRS analysts and associates on the equity derivatives structuring team and the commodities sales desk, Latin America local institutional FICC sales associates, equity derivative solutions associates, equity capital markets (ECM) associates, an associate and a VP of power investment banking, an associate and a VP of third-party equities distribution specializing in selling structured notes to broker-dealers, and a VP of FX prime brokerage.
It is also adding a VP-level central risk book (CRB) quant trading strategist, a VP-level quantitative finance analyst in the rates quantitative strategy group, a VP of structured notes within the equities trading business, a VP of risk platform development, a VP of quantitative development and analysis on the insight team, and a director of ESSL.
In addition to New York-based summer analysts and summer associates, Citi is hiring full-time investment banking analysts in the financial strategy and solutions group, AVP-level IB engineering technicians within the energy acquisitions and divestitures (A&D) group, and IB VPs in the global asset managers (GAM) group. It also has a wide range of open sales, trading and research roles.
At its New York headquarters, Goldman Sachs is hiring various IBD analysts and associates to work on the corporate derivatives desk, the Americas finance group (AFG) and the structured finance syndicate desk in the financing group coverage team. Goldman is also recruiting analysts and associates for the real estate financing group (REFG) capital markets desk, as well as banks and specialty finance associates in the financial institutions group (FIG) and associates on the consumer/retail and real estate teams.
The bank is looking for associates and VPs to focus on syndicated debt financing, the industrials sector and to be anti-raid/anti-activism specialists within the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) solutions group, as well as VPs to work on the activism defense team within the M&A group and real estate, gaming and lodging VPs.
Finally, Goldman wants to bring on a managing director to its global financial sponsors M&A team.
J.P. Morgan is hiring healthcare IB analysts. It wants to add IB associates to its diversified Industries group, investment-grade finance team and shareholder activism defense team.
In addition, the corporate finance advisory (CFA) team is seeking junior associates, while the securities prime brokerage is looking for prime finance transition management associate.
The bank is also looking to hire senior core strategy and strategy & process improvement (S&PI) associates within the CIB.
There are open seats for IB VPs, both M&A generalists and power and utilities sector team members, as well as openings for VPs in the CIB strategy group.
Last but not least, it is looking for an IB MD to join the technology coverage team, predominantly focusing on technology services and the payments space.
