QUESTION:

Tell me about Barclays?

ANSWER GIVEN: 

I was expected to know all about the history of Barclays and what its roots were, all about its acquisitions over the years and about its bosses (CEOs).

QUESTION:

Tell me a weakness of yours?

ANSWER GIVEN: 

I explained that timekeeping was not my best trait. At the same time though I made sure to turn this into a positive and explain that I have been working on it and gave examples of where I have made much progress.

QUESTION:

Explain a time where you coped with working in a 'difficult' team environment. i.e. where you didn't get on with members of your team.

ANSWER GIVEN: 

I explained that it has always been in my nature to act in a very professional manner when at work, making sure that I set aside any personal differences. Sometimes it is necessary to confront people who are difficult to work with, but it is better to be constructive in your criticism of them rather than outright putting them down.

QUESTION:

Tell me how your previous work experience is beneficial in an investment banking environment.

ANSWER GIVEN: 

I explained that whilst the actual day-to-day work was very different (I worked in a retail store) I could certainly bring in the skills I gained such as communication, man-management, time-managment to the investment banking arena. I explained that my previous work experience could sometimes get very pressurised and hectic during busy periods and this experience was very beneficial to bring to the fast-paced world of investment banking.

QUESTION:

Tell me about a time when you were required to be a leader.

ANSWER GIVEN: 

I mentioned that I had been promoted in my previous job and told my interviewer all about the responsibilities and extra tasks that came with that role. I explained that I felt I handled the responsibility very well and that I saw myself as a good leader in that position. I told my interviewer that I felt I would be able to show the same kind of leadership qualities in the investment banking environment.

QUESTION:

Are you able to work with people of varying cultures? If so, explain why.

ANSWER GIVEN: 

I explained that I was able to work with people of varying backgrounds since in my previous job I had done just that. I also explained that having lived abroad and travelled much around the world I picked up a lot about other cultures and the way they do business
