FOREX trading opportunity or placements needed

Hello everyone, i live in the Uk…my past experience is predominantly legal work and IT engineer. Recently since april 2010 i have been learning FOREX (trading) ever since then i have sacrificed my past work and concentrated on forex. I need urgent gudiance as to how can apply for voluntary placements or a job opportunity (if appicable), i need a placement purely to gain experience. If anyone can help in this regard i would be a very happy person. I need mentoring, a correct mindset, yes there are courses available but unfortunetley prices for course are very expensive and I have a tight budget. My passion for FOREX is emmence, i need an opportunity, i need an edge.

Will studying for a CFA be a waste of time with out experience?

Have completed CeFA, studying for DipFA, will go onto do IMC and CFA. Can someone tell me what my chances will be entering into the industry with a CFA and no experience in a few years time. Do we have to have experience before studying for CFA?

Start a career in finance but no experience

I am 35 years old and I have a master’s degree in business economics achieved in Italy.

Since 2009 I live in The Netherlands and I have been working as administrative clerk, so not ”exactly” a financial job. But now I want to change job and I am looking for a job that is more related to the education I have. I would like to find a job in finance.

I have tried to apply for jobs like ”assistent controller”, ”financial accountant” or ”junior financial analyst”, etc., but unfortunately all the job agencies to which I sent my application always answer in the same way: ”We already have spoken to a number of people who have a more extensive experience in the areas required. Thank you for applying though and good luck finding a job.”

On the basis of your experience, can you please let me know what I can do in order to have more opportunities to find a job as mentioned above.

Which steps do you suggest I should take to find a job in finance?

IMC or CISI ? Please provide your advise

Hi,

I have 3 years experience in Operations at leading Investment Bank. I am currently working in a Middle Office Trade Support role to provide Synthetic trade support.

Now I am looking to move into a similar support role with a Hedge Fund. I have also worked in PB trade support so I have some exposure to the hedge fund industry.

Now my question is I want to do a professional qualification but I am unsure which one to choose. I have considered IMC and CISI, but can’t decide. Your advise would be most helpful.

Hi,

I would aprecciate if you can give me hand on what to do about this dilemma:

I have been in IB both as a trader and broker, for almost 4 years. Currently I’m unemployed since 3 months ago, but a couple of weeks ago I received an offer to study a Msc in Economics in one of the top 3 universities in UK.

I am from abroad and my goal after finishing the programme is to stay a couple of years working in the financial sector in London.

The thing is that with this new, my priorities has changed. I am studying to prepare for the programme and lately I have received some job offers (not a great deal).

I can fund myself with no problems until the programme begins, then I have full scholarship and some grants for maintenance purposes.

The dilemma is should I go to work for just 4 months?. In this case I couldn’t tell my new employer that I have an offer to study in UK. By accepting the job offer I would have less time to prepare in a properly way for the Msc.

What worries me is how could it be seen that I was unemployed nearly 7 months, later when I try to get some job in London after finishing my degree. Would it hurt my profile?. Would be better instead just to take the job and 4 months later to tell my employer that I am flying to UK for a graduate degree?. I can’t imagine his face.

Please, I would really apprecciate your experienced and wise thoughts.

I graduated with M.Sc Finance and Investment in 2011 but have not been able to secure a single interview. I hold approx. 6 and half years work exp. in different capacities as quantitative analyst with a brokerage franchisee and as marketing executive, product executive with engg. and IT firms, respectively. I am also a qualified electronics engineer. After redundancy I began teaching quantitative methods to undergrads to cover living expenses. I speak german and hold a full-time UK work permit. Wonder if someone could help me please……. I badly need a job. Cheers.

I have been out of work from finance for just over two months. I’ve had approximately 7 interviews in total but can’t seem to secure a job. The feedback from the interviews has been positive and they have said i’m a strong candidate. Should I be worrying at this point.? Any advice?

Which economics master’s to take

Hi all,

This is my first time posting on here, I hope you can offer some advice.

I have been accepted on to several MSc Economics courses and would like some advice as to which course has the best reputation in the world of professional finance.

The courses are:

LSE: MSc Econometrics and Mathematical Economics,
Cambridge: MPhil Economics,
UCL: MSc Economics,
Barcelona Graduate School of Economics: MSc Economics.

Regarding my background, I have a 2:1 degree in Philosophy and Economics from the University of Edinburgh, 3+ years experience as an economist with the British Government Economic Service, and a distinction in a Graduate Diploma in Economics from Birkbeck, University of London (taken part-time whilst working for the GES).

After the MSc, I plan to either continue to the PhD or move to the private sector and work as an economic research analyst.

Any input would be appreciated.
