The sales and trading divisions of investment banks have traditionally been the engine rooms of profits, employing thousands of people trading trillions of dollars worth of securities across equities, fixed income, commodities and foreign exchange every day. Far more people work in sales and trading - as well as research - which collectively comprise the markets divisions of investment banks than in M&A or capital markets. The sector is changing dramatically, but graduate jobs are still fiercely fought over.
