Goldman Sachs has already signed up some interns for summer 2016

Goldman Sachs

If you want a job at Goldman Sachs, it helps to get in early. 2015 summer internships at the firm haven’t even started and Goldman has already made several summer internship offers for London in 2016.

Publicly available information suggests that at least four people have already got 2016 intern positions at Goldman, although the total is likely much higher. They are George Mandres, an economics and statistics student at University College London (UCL), Kem Karatas, a statistics student at UCL, Presiyana Karastoyanova, an economics student at the University of Bristol, and Martin Li, an economics student at the University of Warwick.

Mandres will be interning in Goldman’s securities business. Karastoyanova will be interning in IBD. The destinations of Karatas and Li are unclear.

Applications for Goldman’s 2016 summer internships aren’t open yet, so how did Rogers, Karatas, Karastoyanova and Li get places? The bank didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, but it’s surely no coincidence that the successful candidates all have one thing in common: they all participated in Goldman’s 2015 spring week.

It looks a lot like a Goldman Sachs spring week (undertaken in your first year at university) can feed into a Goldman Sachs summer internship (undertaken in your second year at university), which can then feed into a full-time job at Goldman when you graduate. If you play it right, therefore, you can line up a Goldman Sachs career from the moment you start university. And if you don’t? You’ll be at a disadvantage to those who do.
