John Macpherson, the former European head of listed derivatives at Citigroup, who left the role after just a couple of months in June 2015 has been out of the market since. He’s now just re-emerged as CEO of a UK fintech firm.

Macpherson is CEO of BMLL Technologies Ltd as of earlier this month. BMLL says that it uses a machine learning platform to provide deep data analytics on historical limit order book data to individual securities on individual trading days. The firm has over 20 employees and is currently hiring for research, data science and front and back-end platform development roles.

Macpherson is an experienced futures trader who has held senior roles at Goldman Sachs and Nomura. He was a managing director and head of fixed income futures and options sales and execution for EMEA at Goldman Sachs for over nine years. He moved to Nomura in 2013.

In 2015, Nomura announced that it was closing some of its business lines, among them OTC clearing, Macpherson decided to move on to Citigroup where he headed up Listed Derivatives for Europe in April 2015. Macpherson held the position for a few months and since June 2015, has been working as a non-executive director and consultant.

Macpherson took over the CEO role from Johannes Sulzberger, who joined BMLL in September 2015 and was previously a managing director and equities trader at Goldman Sachs. Johannes remains a Non-Executive Director of BMLL.
