Macquarie has poached the head technology for Barclays investment bank in Asia to lead the IT function for the entire group.

Justin Raoul Moffit, who has been chief information officer for the Asia-Pacific investment bank at Barclays in Singapore for the past two years, is set to join Macquarie in February 2016, according to sources close to the situation. The appointment was announced internally yesterday.

He will be taking the role of group chief information officer, overseeing some 2,000 technologists globally and leading technology for both Macquarie’s asset management and investment banking functions.

He will be based in Sydney.

The hire is both a significant capture for Macquarie and an unwanted departure for Barclays. Moffit has been working at Barclays since 1997 and has held various roles including head of its FICC investment banking technology division in Asia and head of commodities technology in both London and Singapore.

Moffit took his current role in 2013, and oversees all technology related to the trading floor for the investment bank in Asia, as well as the offshore development centre in Pune, India.
