The highlights of Goldman Sachs’ new partner class

Fraud Charge Against Goldman Sachs Takes Toll On Market Indices

The day is a little bit brighter for the 78 Goldman Sachs employees who were just named partners of the firm. Just 11 are women, but that’s actually up from the 10 that were named in 2012. That’s the highest percentage since at least 2006 – something that can be seen as either positive or negative.

As per usual, the majority of the class comes from Goldman’s investment banking and securities divisions, accounting for 48 of the 78 new partners. The same number were named in 2012, but the overall class was smaller. Goldman named just 70 partners two years ago, the smallest group since the bank went public in 1999.

A whopping 50 partners work in the Americas, with just 19 representing EMEA and eight coming from APAC. One new partner works in India.

Perhaps the highlight of the day is the fact that the very media contact contained on the press release happened to have made the list. Richard L. “Jake” Siewert, Jr., Goldman’s global head of communications, is now a partner. We reached out to him for comment but haven’t heard back yet.

Jennifer Barbetta, a chief operating officer within Goldman Sachs’ asset management unit, was also named partner. She took part in a Glass Hammer piece in 2011 on what it’s like to be openly gay on Wall Street.

Kunal Shah, an emerging markets trader in London, also made the list. He’s just 32 years old, according to Forbes. He was named a managing director at 27.
