Here are some Nordic financial services professionals with careers to aspire to

Superstars

Does the Nordic region have a large proportion of high achievers in the trading and technology space? A new ranking would suggest so.

Every year, UK publication Financial News publishes its 40 Rising Stars of Trading and Technology and, this year, the Nordic region is well-represented. Assuming you want to emulate their success, want can you learn from these up-and-coming financial services professionals.

The loyalty factor: Veronica Augustsson, head of sales, Cinnober (33)

Augustsson started out as a junior developer in the Swedish technology firm in 2001 and has worked her way up within Cinnober to the point where she now leads a team of 20 sales and technical support staff. While her career is relatively linear, the nature of her role has meant she’s spent time working in New York and London.

The career switch: Svante Hedin, head of FX automated trading strategies, JP Morgan (36)

Svante has only been working in financial services since 2006, when he joined JP Morgan. Before this, he worked in the Swedish army, honing his skills in engineering and X-ray imaging. Somehow, this gave him the skills to make the switch into algorithmic trading and financial engineering and he’s managed to rise up the ranks in FX trading.

The school of hard knocks: Henrik Dyrholm Holst, head of platform management, Saxo Bank (37)

Holst started out in a Danish IT consultancy in Copenhagen, but this was a victim of the dotcom bubble. This, suggests Financial News, taught him the importance of building a sustainable business which has underpinned his approach to the currency platform Holst built for Saxo Bank.

The strategy man: Per Lovén, head of international corporate strategy, Liquidnet Europe (36)

Nowadays, the importance of connecting business requirements with technology is a given, but Lovén has been doing it throughout his career, working in project management and business analysis roles before making the move up to a corporate strategy position. He has been responsible for Liquidnet’s joint venture with SIX Swiss Exchange, the introduction of Turkish equities to its platform and various other big strategic initiatives.
