What do you when you’re fatigued with getting up at 5am and battling the oscillations of the European cash equities markets?

How about kicking back, dropping out (of banking), and getting a pleasant job as the bursar of a sedate co-educational boarding school in leafy Berkshire?

Such is the new career of Patrick Burrowes. Burrowes was JPMorgan’s former head of EMEA cash equities. Before JPM, he was a cash equities sales trader at Deutsche, Credit Suisse and HSBC.

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Register shows that Burrowes quietly quit JPMorgan back in April. Since then, he has resurfaced as bursar of Bradfield College.

Burrowes was on annual leave when we called Bradfield to discuss his new role. Former JPM colleagues inform us that he’s an old Bradfieldian himself and has several children at the school. “You can understand why he’s done it,” says one. “He lives in Berkshire, so he can just hop in the car and drive 20 minutes up the road to work. It’s quite a pleasant option.”
