Daily Dispatches: Citi lets students lunch with “big brother” bankers

If you’re a student intern at a bank, your so-called mentor is likely to be a grumpy guy giving you a Starbucks order, not a cheerful chap inviting you to chat over dinner. In a bid to change all that, alongside its traditional in-house internships, Citigroup in Singapore is providing mentors to students for a five-month period.

The students, selected from National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University, can seek out career advice from Citi employees over meals, phone calls and even text messages.

Citi apparently wants to help undergrads understand what it’s like working in a bank (students should perhaps prepare themselves for a few 2am calls). “The mentors are more of a big brother or sister to the mentees,” said Citi human resource director Evangeline Chua.
