Sarkozy Jumps from UBS to Carlyle
Mar 3 2008
Olivier Sarkozy will jump from UBS to the Carlyle Group as co-head and managing director of the Global Financial Services Group.
Sarkozy - joint global head of UBS's FIG Investment Banking and the half-brother of French President Nicolas Sarkozy - said he was making the move because it represents, "a unique opportunity to work with a top tier investment firm as it establishes a new global practice." He'll make the move in April. Sarkozy's co-head will be David Zwiener, the former head of the Hartford Financial Services Group Inc.'s property and casualty unit.
The group "has yet to do a deal," notes The Wall Street Journal, but is seeking to capitalize on opportunities generated by "the recent tumult in the credit markets and the dislocation in the financial-services industry."
Formed in June 2007, Carlyle's Global Financial Services Group now has nine investment professionals. Besides Zwiener these include Managing Director Randal K. Quarles, former Under Secretary of the U.S. Treasury for Domestic Finance; and Managing Director David M. Moffett, former Vice Chairman and Chief Financial Officer of U.S. Bancorp.
Before joining UBS in 2002, Sarkozy served in several senior capacities at First Boston Corporation beginning in 1993, including as Managing Director and Head of the Depository Institutions Group. He began his career at Dillon, Read & Co., Inc. in 1990. He earned his M.A. from St. Andrews University.
