Which areas in finance should foreigners concentrate to find a job that can be sponsored for them?

Those companies who took TARP money were asked to first look for domestic candidates and then hire foreigners only if it could not find any suitable domestic candidate. It seems that almost all financial companies are hesitating to hire foreigners.

  • I agree with Cynic...I find that most non-US citizens, especially, those from Asian countries often find themselves pigeon-holed in Quant or IT positions in financial services, banking and i-banking companies. That happens because US citizens love studying history, geography, philosophy, art history, languages, fine arts, music, sociology, psychology, fashion etc. And then want high paying positions in I-banks based on having studied these subjects from reputed universities. So they are basically unqualified for IT & Quant positions. Rest of the positions such as sales jobs involve lot of talking which 'poets' are very good at. That's how foreigners end up in quant and IT positions !
