Doing an internship related to your field in crucial. why? 1. Shows interest 2. You will be compared to other Fulltimers with IB experience 3. Banks or any business hire people with related experience. It is key to have an internship BUT it is not the only way to get an IB position. You can NETWORK, MARKET YOURSELF AND CONVINCE recruiters that your capable.
