What jobs can a former sell-side equities execution trader get these days?

I was laid off a year ago and have frantically been trying to find a job in almost anything dealing w/ equities and have been unsuccessful. I am accepted to two MBA programs outside NY ranked in the high-teens and really don't want to leave the area. I don't think this MBA will get me at a hedge fund in two years or into asset mgmt. My other option is to move into the public sector, where I might actually impact peoples' lives and make a difference in this work. I did like trading though and was pretty good at it. Should I give up on this rat-race and go into the public sector or do I have a chance finding a cash equities execution job in the next two years?
