  • To put it simply, it depends on the gap between the qualifications one has and the ones required for that job and the status of the employer. During the 1992 crisis, many MBAs from prestigious business schools, but without IB background, were recrutired by such investment banks as JP Morgan as 3rd year analysts and not as associates. There was nothing to be ashamed of. Unfortunately now the situation is even more serious than it was

  • I would have to say...start at the bottom for 2 years and if you're not growing in a particular firm switch out with the experiences you have. It will be tough. You will definitely not like starting at the bottom, I can promise you for sure. Is there a program you can try to apply to, those that focus on mid-career changes?

  • The MBA has not given me the inside track that I would have preferred. I have one from Washington University-St. Louis with a high concentration in fixed income, but have been unable to move from financial analyst work to Capital Markets. To focus on your MBA would be a mistake because you are competing with other's that have MBA, CFA, CPA all three. Your experience is not made clear, but if you can find a position that allows you to move in the direction you want to go;especially if it is a career change, then by all means grab it and work diligently to move to the position you want.
