  • I wouldn't advise it. As it stands right now you would probably have more opportunities in the technology field than in finance. There is a large pool of qualified financial candidates, yet there are less firms to work for and no jobs.

  • I am sure you can. I have switched from Hospitality field to Finance!!!! If i can do it any one can!!! I am aware that there is a large pool of qualified financial candidates but still some of us who do not have any experience in Finance, get jobs!!!! I think its all about CAN DO attitude not qualification. Best of luck!!! :-)

  • it seems..from your question...you've decided to switch fields. but when you say finance, do you mean Finance Dept., or corporate finance, structuring, or etc...in the financial industry?

  • By the tone of mehtakruti's answer, it's clear that he defines "finance" very broadly indeed. If I had to guess, I'd say his finance duties probably consist of executing the "document retention policy" within his employer's finance department. Translation: hand-running gazillions of sheets of paper through a shredding machine each day. My publicly traded company has someone who does that, though we're small so the volume of paper to be shredded doesn't consume a major part of her day. mehtakruti probably works in a larger company.

  • Hi i feel its better to continue your career than in technology/IT field than in finance stream, because you will get good exposure than in Finance field.

  • I think it has happened once but the jump from most fields into finance is one that requires rocket powered boots. You might be fully qualified to perform the role you seek but without experience this industry will rarely consider you unless you are related to or referred by someone important. So in short the transition is rare in a good market in today's market if you dont know someone who really wants to give you a chance it's not gonna happen.

  • Hi pieinthesky how do u know what i do? Oh yes! you are the one who picks up those shredded papers , aren't you? Oh no that is not you!!! Our company didn't want you as you just don't have positive attitude !!! Better luck next time :-) For now just keep picking up rubbish for your small company as it will be better than being unemployed!!!
