  • Start getting internships in the field you would like to work in. If it is a brokerage firm. start out helping out with operations or something voluntarily, then become operations assistant or help somewhere. If you want to be an analyst somewhere, start gaining experience with internships in school and that will put you ahead of other candidates. Check out your career services center to see if they can hook you up with a job.

  • Many people on the trading floor have similar academic backgrounds. Fixed income especially. In order to get an internships (a must during college) you should have a 3.5+ gpa, some good non-academic work (president of some club, etc) and have a well rounded personality since you may be working with clients. The job market sucks right now but when you graduate there should be good opportunities. Work on the trading floor can involve excel modeling, market watching, client exposure, legal work and a good sense of risk taking. Good luck
