How much modeling is enough for a buy side analyst. I cover 35 companies and detailed models are a challenge.

I have been working on the buy side for over 10 years. I am a CFA charterholder. I have about 35 companies in our current portfolio and am usually looking at several more at any given time. I am always looking at sellside models (the detailed spreadsheets) and I just don't see how that level of detail is attainable given my coverage. What level of modeling is required if I want to move on to another position?
