I'm in inst. research sales but would like to get to the buy-side. Is this realistic?

In addition to research sales, I have been a Nasdaq market maker. I also have an MBA in Finance. A buy-side position as a trader or as an analyst would be ideal. I've applied to various positions but never seem to get the call for an interview. I would be willing to take a lower salary for the right opportunity. Am I living a pipe dream or is a transition possible? What would be the best approach? Would a CFA be worth the effort?
