How can my NYSE trading floor experience be valuable to a large equities hedge fund?
I have 10 years of seemingly worthless work experience. Most of my career was spent on the floor of the NYSE, but since equity trading in general is becoming more automated (given the trend of fundamental PM vs quant models vs pure execution functions being separated) there are fewer and fewer value-added trading positions out there. My former isolation on the NYSE trading floor has left me with no buy side contacts or customers to allow me to bring a book of business to another sell side institution, and I believe that the value of salesperson’s input is also diminishing quite rapidly. But how do I get my foot in the door and sell my prior experience as valuable without starting from the ground floor?
