If I want to do contract work, how can I keep my licenses active in the long-term (Series 7, 24, 63, 9/10,Life

If I do not hang my license with a broker/dealer, my licenses will no longer be good after 2 years. Do I need to become my own B/D to keep my licenses? If so, how do I do that? Thank you for any help you can be!
