Question: Hello, I’m just preparing my CFA level 1 and would like to know which volume (out of the 6) is mostly used in the cfa exam questions?Thx!

  1. If you’re using something like Schweser study aids in six volumes then these are already the condensed notes. You need to learn all of it.

  2. You need all of them. I just passed my level 1 exam and I can assure you that you can’t skimp on any of them.

  3. Thank you. And regarding the calculators, I see that only the Texas Instrument and HP ones are allowed, any recommendation for one in particular that can calculate quickly, skewness, kurtosis…and all the stat calculations that take ages?

  4. Use the latest version of the allowed calculators. I wouldn’t worry about the calculations so much as they aren’t a huge component of the exam.

  5. Re calculator: If I’m not entirely mistaken (my Lv1 was a few years back) calculating skewness and kurtosis is not part of any of the Learning Objective Statements. There are no questions that require you to enter a meaningfully large dataset into the calculator and spitting out descriptive statistics.

Instead you need to read through every book, note down the Learning Objective Statements and do the questions at the end of each section. The Schweser Question Bank can be a nice supplement. The questions on the exam will not be unfairly different from the ones at the end of the sections, so these should prepare you well for what might come up (short answer: anything).

It is also said that the dealbreaker for someone whose score is borderline will be ethics, which is in book 1. But not reading any of the books will have you fail regardless.
