Degree is from a top tier university. My excel skills are intermediate. While exploring career options, I find that I am being pigeon-hold into the above areas as well as into financial reporting in commerce and industry. What other avenues are available to me given my background?

Have you thought about the more interesting ‘structured tax’ side of things? It’s very ‘underground’ as it’s politically unpopular and few banks will recruit for it publicly.
