Question: Is Market Risk the best position if you cannot get into Front Office

Is Market Risk the best paid within MO & BO?

  1. why are you so concerned about “best paid”? What about job satisfaction / career progression?

  2. Pay: I don’t think market risk is paid much better than any other MO/BO part, may be except settlements and custody ;). However, I strongly recommend doing an MBA / PhD from a well known university over a second best solution. You have to show your conviction to get into a role in FO.

  3. Market Risk is a joke. Don’t bother. 2yrs now bonus pool squeezed to 0.

    Market risk management/modelling – yes. For both these roles you require strong understanding of financial products and complex vba and sqls. It also requires constant interaction with senior traders and hence presents an opportunity to network necessary to jump
