Question: Is it worth getting your CV written by a “Certified Professional CV Writer” for 350?

I got a very damning review from a free CV critique. I wonder if some of it is just scaremongering so I sign up for the paid service.

  1. Personally I wouldn’t bother with these services, have a look at CV styles online, you can find most B-school and other templates if you search. These services talk a good game but rarely deliver. I had a friend who tried out one of these services and the “new CV” came back looking just the same as the old one, just with a different order and some spelling mistakes added into the mix!

  2. Certified?????? Who on earth ‘certifies’ a CV writer?

I’ll knock you one up for 80 if you like using my own template *which has got me into plenty of BB bank interviews…..

  3. its so worth it, I used a service and they totoally revamped my CV, the best 300 I ever spent, espeically as most of these CV writing frims are ex-HR from BB investment banks!

  4. I guess that is where the UK has reached!!!! People do not think anymore. Everything is so mechanical nowadays. Nobody questions your ability to perform so far as you’re from a top University. Once your CV indicate certain buzzz words and its nice, you’re called up!!! Some bankers/traders just follow indicators not knowing even the principles behind them.

I paid for a CV review with Ladders and guess what, it was the same critic they gave to that of a friend of mine! They have a CV template for different roles and that is what they’re selling including what to say and how to say it!!!!

To me it’s a waste of time and money.

  5. Consider this… if they were that good at writing/reviewing CV’s, they would probably use their “tools of the trade” and enhanced their own CV’s, and could find a job more respectable and useful then a CV reviewer. Just an opinion.
