Question: Merrill (Bank of America) vs Royal Bank Scotland?

Forgive my ignorance;
Which do you consider the better bank to be in today’s climate for middle office staff & Finance. Obviously both have strong ties with Bank of America & ABN respectively.

Which is better or safer even more so who will eventually come out on top in the medium /long term RBS or Merrill (Bof A)?

  1. Merrill – no argument. RBS has institionalised itself to death.

  2. RBS?? are you kidding? That third rate UK bank with their pitiful bonuses, will never compare to the behemoth that is Mother Merrill. even with MDs leaving left, right and centre, they still come top 5 for ECM, DCM, flow. Look at the Thomson Financial tables yourself.

    To be completely honest, from the inside it doesnt even feel as though weve merged with BofA. All the banners & buildings still have the bull logo, we still answer the phone with ‘Merrill’, and we still close deals using our original name. There has been next to no movement in people between offices, so for all its worth, its still just plain old Merrill.

  3. can’t believe you even ask this question, the M part in BoAM, is in a completely different league to RBS, say no more.

  4. rbs is filled with fools and laricans whereas merrill the great and the good

  5. Unfortunately RBS has basically had it. All the good people have left / are leaving.

  6. RBS hasn’t had it. It employs some of the best trained and brightest analysts in banking. Where it falls down is the line manager culture that it has. Most line managers there are either tatooed thugs from Essex or washed up scots with a drink problem and their speedy removal will strengthen the bank.
