Question: What are peoples thoughts on the MBA programme offered at Edinburgh uni? Does it command much respect in the asset management sector?

  1. Its not hugely thought of, mainly due to the fact it is actually run in association with Heriot Watt (they call it Edinburgh Bus School) so that knocks it down a peg or two.

Having said that it is cheap compared to the big named schools down south and you can study for it part time over a number of years.

  2. it is Scottish. Now think on.

  3. My Friend, it`s not done in conjunction with Heriot Watt, but at the University of Edinburgh Business School which is a complete different and more reputable entity than Heriot Watt`s Edinburgh Business School. And to answer the question; a degree from Edinburgh is very well respected in the asset managenent industry.

  4. Edinburgh..ha ha ha…while your at it you should check out the university of Hull’s MBA programme…HA HA HA

  5. Im thinking someones disappointed with their Hull MBA, dont you think ZLTE017?

  6. Well done I. Stewart how v prescient of you. Yes It is THE 1 stain on my CV a Hull MBA…HA HA HA!!! But now back to the real world and here’s a tip for free. Is an Edinburgh MBA any good…NO. If you want to obtain employment at GS or any top HF or PE fund then you have NO Chance through their grad programme. Obviously if your happy with a back office role in a sleepy backwater, proceed with Edinburgh…Toodlepip!!

  7. As far as I’m concern a degree from Edinburgh is well suffcicient to get into the finest asset management houses which is what i.stewart asked about…

  8. ZLTE017-Im sure you would be happy to work in Back Office, probably a step up for you

  9. Thanks for the advise. Where in the UK would you recommend?

  10. Wait a minute…I didnt say that…

  11. To all those who still think it’s funny to use these boards for the pathetic – your uni is crap, its not worth working for anyone but gs etc – we get the joke. It’s been done a million times before and we’re all very proud of your first class education/top rated job – shame you can’t reply to someone’s simple request for information without resorting to “my dad’s tougher than your dad type” comments.

In answer to your question re the Edinburgh MBA I believe it is highly regarded and can think of 1 or 2 very successful people in the industry with this qualification.

  12. Time to get off your high horse now bt
