Three smaller organisations with the potential for biggish hiring in 2011

We’ve already suggested where the big banks might be hiring in 2011, but there’s more to financial services than the largest, Western financial institutions. There are alternatives. And the alternatives are hiring. Here’s where you might want to send your CV, and why.

1) MF Global

What

A futures brokerage which is trying to turn into a full service investment bank under the auspices of Jon Corzine, the former Goldman Sachs chief executive who joined last year.

Why?

MF Global has just hired Richard Moore, a former head of fixed income at Citigroup, to run its business in Europe. Moore will join in April. Redundancies are possible; upgrading is very likely.

2) Otkritie

What

Russian brokerage firm, partially owned by VTB Group, the Russian state-controlled bank.

Why?

Last year, Otkritie said it was hiring 90 people in preparation for an IPO in 2012 time.

This year, it’s already hired a team of five fixed income bankers, and Roman Lokhov, CEO of Otkritie Securities Limited (London) and head of Otkritie’s global markets and investment banking business tells us, it anticipates “further growth” across its offices in 2011.

3) Renaissance Capital

What

Emerging markets investment bank emanating from Russia.

Why?

Last July, ‘RenCap’ said it wanted to hire up to 250 people. This year, that hiring appears to be continuing, with an emphasis on equities. In February, it hired a London-based VP in equity sales. And a few weeks ago, it announced the addition of six people for global cash equities trading, including a new head of global cash equities, based in London, from Citigroup.

RenCap also appears to think that now is the time to open an office in Egypt, and may therefore be hiring here soon.

  1. Renaissance will never be able to break into city’s top league. they like to do a lot of PR, but in reality very modest in operations. I could never comprehend their hiring decisions and benefits policy. The USSR and canary wharf dont mix well after all.

  2. Ooh Ooh Ooh i wanna move to Egypt!

  3. RenCap wants to be a major player but will never be.
